Throughout the year we display various banners in the front of our sanctuary. The banners are shown below along with a description of when they are displayed and what the parts represent.

Special thanks to Jean Roth for writing the banner descriptions.

Lenten Banner

This banner displays the symbols of Lent: the towel and bowl of water for Jesus washing His followers feet, the rooster (cock) for Peter denying Jesus three times, the bag of gold for Judas' betrayal, the Palm branch for triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the Communion cup and wafer for the Last Supper. Finally, the Crown of Thorns symbolizes the crucifixion.

Alleluia Banner

This is displayed Easter Sunday. The butterflies are a symbol of new life. The circle is a symbol of the world and God's love for us. The color purple symbolizes Jesus' royalty and the crown circling the cross represents Christ's victory over the cross of death.

Pentecost Banner

The wording emphasizes the "oneness" of all people. The Pentecost flame is made of the colors red, brown, yellow, black and white representing people of every race. The dove depicts the descending of the Holy Spirit.

Advent Banner

This banner shows the often circuitous path people follow to come to Christ. It encourages all people (depicted by the town) to "make a straight path for Him".

Made by Matt Smith

Christmas Sunday Banner

The bursting star refers to the miracle of Jesus birth and his ascendancy over all. The trumpets hail Him as King of the world (depicted by the brown circle). The wording indicates that we should all be born again in Christ.

Epiphany Banner

This banner shows the Three Kings following the star of Bethlehem in their search for the Christ Child. The wording encourages proclamation of the birth of our Savior.

Made by Matt Smith

New Life Banner

It shows a sunrise as a new beginning. The seed growing into a plant symbolizes spiritual growth. The new life is our gift from God.

Made as a gift to the church from a group of young mothers.

Wedding Banner

This banner depicts the union of two people in the bonds of Holy Matrimony blessed by the church of Jesus Christ. The gold cross is encircled by two gold rings symbolizing the wedding rings.
